Lay Me Down Lyrics
by Cold Specks
Fairly simple song once you've retuned, only has four shapes, just picked/strummed in a
couple of different ways/speeds.
Chords used:
Bbm: X4000X
F#: X0012X
C#: X2000X
F#2: X0055X
It doesn't matter too much if you hit the other strings, as it's an open tuning. But in
the live versions I've seen they seem to be the only strings played (you don't here high
notes much).
If you want to try it in standard tuning, you could try the following chords and picking
pattern noted at the bottom:
Bbm: X1332X
F#: 24432X
C#: 4431XX
F#2: As F#
Mother mother I wait
Father Father don't you fear
The ground is what this blood know We simply greet it and rest
All I ask of you now is to lay me down
Lay me down Lay me down Lay me down
Bridge bit:
The next section uses the same chord shapes, played in this kind of way
(some of the live versions I've seen, and towards the end of the song, she doesn't play
the lowest string on the middle strum)
With my last breath, my soul will slip
With my last breath, my soul will slip
With my last breath, my soul will slip
Where the ground is what this blood knows
We simply greet it and rest
And Brother, brother when the time comes, will you smoke this history now.
Burn this name. When you lay me down
Rest of the song goes pretty much the same, just with more strums, e.g.:
Lay me down Lay me down Lay me down Lay me down
Lyrics/chords (It's tricky to align them given the speed of the strums to the lyrics,
but should give you an idea):
Mother, mother I wait
Father, father don't you fear
The ground is what this blood know We simply greet it and rest
All I ask of you now is to lay me down
Lay me down Lay me down
(no chords)
Lay me down
(Bridge bit above)
With my last breath, my soul will slip
With my last breath, my soul will slip
With my last breath, my soul will slip
-# #-
Where the ground is what this blood knows
we simply greet it and rest
And Brother, brother when the time comes
Will you smoke this history now?
(no chords)
Burn this name, When you lay me down
Lay me down
Lay me down
and lay me down
-#
Lay me down
When you lay me down
Lay me down
And lay me down
-#
Lay me down
When you lay me down
Lay me down
When you lay me down
When you lay me down
Lay me down
When you lay me down
With my last breath, my soul will slip
Where the ground is what this blood knows
We simply greet it and rest
It ends on the F#.
Verse riff for standard tuning (won't sound quite the same, but it's approximate:
