Run So Far Lyrics

by Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton Run So Far Lyrics

from the album "Journeyman"
and it appears on Eric's 1989 "Journeyman" album. The song
has several guitar parts, including a rhythm guitar playing
the chords, a lead guitar playing the fills, and a slide
guitar played by George Harrison. I have transcribed the
rhythm guitar part and some of the leads/fills.
Intro/Chorus:
|------^-----------------------------------| (play twice)
----slide---------------------------------
----guitar--------------------------------
----slide---------------------------------
----guitar--------------------------------
Verse 1:
You fly out as your smile wears thin
And I sigh, knowing the mess you're in
And you know that you can't get away
G C (play fill #1)
And you know you can't hide it from yourself
Chorus 1: (play intro)
Lonely days, heavy heart
No escape, can only run so far
Verse 2:
I know something I ought to say
C G C F (play fill #2 after "here")
Stuck here, trying to find a way (play fill #3 after "way")
And you know that you can't get away
G C (play fill #1)
And you know you can't hide it from yourself
Chorus 2: (play intro twice)
Lonely nights, blue guitar
No way out, can only run so far
Lonesome tears at the bar
One way street, can only run so far
Verse 3:
Oooh ooooh, oooohh ooooh oooh
C G C F (play fill #2)
I pray that you might make it through
C G C F (play fill #3)
Those teardrops they now seem a part of you
And you know that you can't get away
G C (play fill #1)
And you know you can't hide it from yourself
Chorus 3: (play intro three times)
Fallin' down, under par
Can't get out, can only run so far
Lonely days, heavy heart
No escape, can only run so far
Lonesome tears at the bar
One way street, can only run so far
Ending:
Oooh ooooh, oooohh ooooh oooh
Oooh ooooh, oooohh ooooh oooh
Fill #1 Fill #2 Fill #3
