The chord guitar part was recorded with a fretless "Acoustic"
guitar, surely with a very light gauge of strings. Playing it
with an acoustic jumbo or dreadnought with thicker strings may
prove too hard, although it's not impossible.
This instrumental is astonishingly beautiful. Zappa was well
acquainted with quartal harmony, which is surprising in 1976.
I guess that only some very well trained jazz musicians at the
time knew about the subject, but Zappa commanded lots of great
musicians throughout his career and that may explain anything.
