This is a great Nick Lowe song. I couldn't beleive it wasn't already posted here, so I
had to figure it out for myself. Listen to the song for the strum pattern. I play this
with open chords except for the last part of the chorus, where I use a barred A chord
starting at the 7th fret, up through the 5th, 4th and ending at the 2nd.
Intro/main chord progression:
Verse 1:
I get it every day
I'm getting used to it
Now every time it hits
My heart quits
I wear a little smile
While swallowing the dirt
But underneath my shirt
My heart hurts
(Intro chords)
Verse 2:
It's murder but it's nice
Getting away with it
The time you let it slip
I liked it
My fingers and my thumbs
Overcome me with mirth
But underneath my shirt
My heart hurts
(strum A for 4 bars leading into chorus)
Chorus:
Lord, if you're lonely
You Must be out of your mind
Lord, if you're lonely
You must be out of your mi--i--i--ind
Verse 3:
I get it every day
I'm getting used to it
Now every time it hits
My heart quits
Your taste is for the task
Your fondness is to flirt
But underneath my shirt
My heart hurts
(Intro chords)
(Strum A 4 bars leading into chorus)
(Chorus)
(Repeat verse 1)
Repeat main chord progression 4x to fade, with no lyrics except "My heart hurts" at the
appropriate part at the end. I'm not entirely sure that the second half of the chorus is
correct. May be missing a chord in there. Anyways, this is pretty close, if not 100%.
