Porrohman by Big Country from the Album "The Crossing"
Tab by Colin Dawson; colin_g_dawson@hotmail.com
Stuart plays the intro with lots of delay; delay volume only slightly =
lower
than the original signal. Use lots of repeats on the delay and use =
to fill out the sound. You'll get a great effect and the delay does a =
lot
of the work for you; it will play the notes in brackets for you
making the riff much easier to play. I've only included the bracketed =
notes
in the first 4 bars (coz it was too much like hard work) but they =
continue
as long as the riff does. Stuart uses various different pitch shift and
octaver settings at different parts of the intro - and during the e-bow
sections - sometimes it's an octave up sometimes a fifth or a seventh up =
I
think. Listen to the live King Biscuit Flower Hour version and you'll =
hear
this clearly.
I've added Bruce's parts at the end.
(Stuart)
(add Bruce 1)
(bass)
(add drums) =
echo......
echo......
(repeat 4 times)
(add Bruce 2 in place of Bruce 1) (12 times)
Clean sound with lots of delay & chorus. Strum the first & third chords
- the C#m - slowly UP the way and let the delay create a cascade effect.
(Bruce 2 continues)
Night hangs on the city
Laughter lies on faces
E-bow after 1st verse. Use lots of delay, some distortion, chorus
(see Alternative at end if you don't have an e-bow)
E-bow
E-bow (Add Bruce 3)
E-bow
Delay - no E-bow quiet........
Delay - no E-bow quiet........
Louder (I've just tabbed the main notes - listen to CD for rhythm)
Verse 2 (same as verse 1)
I haven't tried to do the rhythm here - listen to the CD for that!
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3 (twice)
The rest is pretty starightforward to work out!
Here are the Bruce bits;
Bruce 1 - Played with the same delay as Stuart's part
Bruce 2 (overdrive) (repeat for rest of intro and all of verse)
Bruce 3 (4 times)
E---|12-14----------|12-14-----------|------------------|----------------= |
B-14|------------14-|----------------|---------12-------|----------------= |
G---|------13-------|------13-----13-|-------13-------13|----------------= |
D---|---------------|-----------14---|14---14-------14--|14----14-13-14--= |

Alternative to E-bow;
If you don't have an E-bow or have one and can't use it (I remember =
seeing
Mick Ronson trying to control one and failing miserably so it's nothing
to be ashamed of) try the following. Use a volume pedal to fade notes in =
as required - this works quite well;
h=3D=3Dhammer
p=3Dpull
s=3Dslide
SsssssSsssss=3Ddeaden strings with left hand, strum like hell and try to =
;mphasise the capital S!
