The last train is nearly due, the underground is closing soon,

And in the dark deserted station, restless in anticipation,

A man waits in the shadows.
رجل ينتظر في الظل.
His restless eyes leap and scratch, at all that they can touch or catch,
عيناه المضطربتان تقفزان وتخدشان كل ما يمكنهما لمسه أو التقاطه،
And hidden deep within his pocket, safe within his silent socket,
ومختبئًا في أعماق جيبه، آمنًا داخل مقبسه الصامت،
He holds a coloured crayon.
يحمل قلم تلوين ملون.
Now from the tunnel's stony womb, the carriage rides to meet the groom,
الآن من رحم النفق الحجري، تنطلق العربة للقاء العريس،
And opens wide and welcome doors, but he hesitates, then withdraws
ويفتح له أبوابا واسعة ومرحبا، لكنه يتردد، ثم ينسحب
Deeper in the shadows.
أعمق في الظل.
And the train is gone suddenly, on wheels clicking silently
وذهب القطار فجأة، على عجلات تنقر بصمت
Like a gently tapping litany, and he holds his crayon rosary
مثل ابتهال ينقر بلطف، وهو يحمل مسبحة قلم التلوين الخاص به
Tighter in his hand.
أشد في يده.
Now from his pocket quick he flashes, the crayon on the wall he slashes,
الآن يخرج بسرعة من جيبه، ويمزق قلم التلوين الموجود على الحائط،
Deep upon the advertising, a single-worded poem comprised of
في أعماق الإعلان، تتألف قصيدة من كلمة واحدة من
Four letters.
أربعة أحرف.
And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding,
وقلبه يضحك ويصرخ ويقصف
The poem across the tracks rebounding,
القصيدة عبر المسارات تنتعش،
Shadowed by the exit light, his legs take their ascending flight
في ظل ضوء الخروج، تأخذ ساقاه رحلتهما الصاعدة
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night.
ليطلب صدر الظلمة فيرضعه الليل.
