Twenty Wild Horses Lyrics

twenty wild horses
The opener of Under The Influence. It hasn't got a drive as most of the
songs of this album but it's a good song. I like the lyrics. I wrote it
down in C sharp, but I could have written it down in D-flat just as well.
1. Chords and rythm
The basic rhythm during the song (except for the intro and first verse)
sounds like this:
d ududd udud
. . play notes above dots short!
Intro: C#5 C#5sus4
Verse 1: F#5 F#5sus2 C#5 C#5sus4 E5sus2 B5sus2
Verse 2: F#5 C#5 E5 B5
Chorus: C#5 F#5 C# F# for the C#7

(how do you)
Verse:
How do you do? Tell me how are you?
Have you been well?
Give my re-gards to the world
Hand on my heart, I didn't do what they say
Cos I would rather be blind
or lose my mind com- pletely
Chorus:
Twenty Wild Horses and five hundred man
They couldn't drag me that far down again
Give me a colt 45 to my head
so I can say I'd be better off dead
Straight as an arrow I'll make a new start
What can I tell you, it's straight from the heart
Verse 2:
I have a dream and it's the same every night
I sleep with you, everything seems to be right
Beyond belief
When I a- wake and I find, that I am stuck in this place
My back's to the wall com- pletely
Bridge:
So what can I say?
Seems that in here I find everyone is innocent
|A#m |B |D#m |C# |A#m |B |D#m |
|C#5 |C#5 F#| 2x
|C#5 |C#5 F#|C#5 |C#5 |
Verse 3:
All I can do is hope and pray for an end
I've had e- nough, but that don't change anything
Hand on my heart, I didn't do what they say
Now at the end of the line
I'm loosing my mind com- pletely
Chorus plus:
Twenty Wild Horses and five hundred man
They couldn't drag me that far down a- gain
Repeat and fade out
|C#5 |C#5 F#|2x
Twenty wild horses (repeat)

3. Tabs
Intro:
Rythm guitar
For the intro-part you have to emphasize every first not of the triplet
As far as I can hear it's played with alternated up and down strokes
so you have to emphasize upstrokes to. This is the pattern:
> > > > = the note that has to be emphasized
dududu
This may require some practice but once mastered you can use it in
other quo-songs too.
leadguitar:
Verse 1:
This is my interpretation of how the first verse is accompanied but...
don't take my word for it. As far as I can hear, two guitars are picking
separate intervals of the chords I gave above for verse one. Taking this
as a starting-point I come to the conclusion that the two guitars are
playing the following notes:
Guitar 1 G|11|11|13|13|11|11|11|13||11|11|13|13|11|11|13|11||
Guitar 2 G|--|--|--|--|9-|9-|--|--||--|--|--|--|9-|--|--|11||
Only the two guitars together are making the chords. So if you want
to play it on your own you can make a mixture (see the chords
I indicated for verse 1).
I play the intervals like this:
Here will follow the bars between the intro and verse one:
Chorus:
You can find the chords and rhythm of the chorus above. During the
second and third chorus the other guitar is playing the full chords
on the first beat and keeps it ringing for two bars and strikes the
other chord.
Break:
I can't really hear the guitarparts during the break 'cause it's
absorbed in the totalsound. I think one guitar is pumping the
powerchords (G#5, C#5) and the other one is strumming the full
chords with a cleaner sound. That's an important thing to know
play the powerchord with a distorted guitar and the full chords
with a clean guitar. Some full chords sound awful on a distorted
guitar (try for example Cmaj7 X3545X).
Little solo:
. pre-bend
Overdub on the solo (or played with harmonizer)
During the second part the intro-reedle is coming in again. You
find it above. During the F#5 chords the same pattern is played
in the 11th position.
